BREAKING: Attorney General Sessions lied under oath
News broke this week that Attorney General Jeff Sessions lied under oath during his confirmation hearing about communicating with Russia during the election.
In response to a question from Senator Al Franken (D-MN) during his confirmation hearing, Sessions stated, “I have been called a surrogate in that [Trump] campaign...and I did not have communications with the Russians.” Watch the interaction here.
It’s now clear that Sessions was lying. In fact, he spoke with the Russians twice during the 2016 campaign. It’s one more story and one more appointee that links the Trump administration to Russia. And it keeps getting worse.
This is exactly the conflict of interest and ethical quandary that we were concerned about when we sent a letter to the U.S. Senate Majority and Minority Leaders urging them to carefully scrutinize all Cabinet nominees.
To make matters worse, Sessions has said he will not recuse himself from Department of Justice investigations about Russian contacts with Trump campaign officials. It seems he has something to hide. We deserve to know the truth about Russia’s full influence on our election.
As Attorney General, Sessions is charged with upholding and enforcing the law. But he isn’t even following the law. Attorney General Sessions has committed a felony, and the American people can no longer trust him to do his job.
